One of the biggest – and quietest – revolutions of the 20th century was the redefinition of women. When mainstream media or academe discuss the 20th century, they refer to world wars and Cold Wars, to globalization and delocalization, to falling walls and rising fundamentalism, to the birth of the internet and the end of history. But what life in the West – of man, woman or child – has not been most profoundly impacted and changed by the change in women?

What women achieved in the 20th century is revolutionary and world-shaping. It changed families and finances, parenting and power, societies and sex.
